The action follows what officials described as the discovery of coordinated birth tourism networks spanning multiple continents. The crackdown represents an escalation in enforcement against what the Trump administration views as visa fraud.
What the State Department Found
Investigators uncovered three separate birth tourism operations across West Africa, North Africa, and Europe. A West African embassy discovered a sophisticated network using fraudulent documents, affecting over 100 foreign nationals whose visas were subsequently revoked.
A North African embassy identified more than 100 visa holders who traveled to the United States with birth tourism as their primary objective. A European embassy flagged over 400 suspected cases within two years, tracing them to companies that coached visa applicants, arranged U.S. housing, and coordinated delivery plans.
The State Department said consular officers and law enforcement are employing data analytics to identify and dismantle additional visa abuse networks. Officials have permanently banned several individuals from future U.S. travel.
