“He attempted to assassinate the president of the United States, Donald J. Trump,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Jocelyn Ballantine told the court, describing Allen’s alleged attempt to reach the ballroom where the president sat alongside Cabinet officials and members of the media. Allen entered the venue armed with multiple weapons, prosecutors said.
