Federal law enforcement officials identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California. Allen breached an outer security checkpoint approximately 20 minutes into the event while carrying a shotgun, handgun, and multiple knives.
Secret Service agents intercepted Allen in the hotel lobby before he could reach the main ballroom. “The suspect was confronted by U.S. Secret Service personnel, and a violent altercation ensued,” federal authorities stated in a preliminary report.
